Red Gum management for biodiversity
June 5 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
| Free – $10Acknowledging the Wurundjeri people the traditional custodians of the land we will walk in during this excursion.
Eucalyptus Court Nature Reserve is the starting point. It is a 10 ha Plains Grassy woodland Reserve, or otherwise could be could be described as River Red Gum woodland or even Red Gum swamp, or Gilgai freshwater wetland. It is on basalt derived alluvial soils.
Hume City Council has managed it for about 15 years since it was purchased from the crown. Before that it was in private ownership, primarily used for grazing sheep and cattle. Management considerations that Eric is keen to discuss are Red Gum thinning, understorey management, burning, public perceptions and fauna habitat values, inter-organisational approaches and broad ecological aims. Eric will mostly be focusing on ‘red gum management for biodiversity’, Eric says “it’s a complex topic and one I believe people will find interesting”
